Great Big Sea is a band that originated in Newfoundland, Canada. The band consists of four members: Alan Doyle, Darrell Power, Bob Hallett, and S�an McCann. The band began their singing careers together in 1993. Since then they have produced four albums. Their first self-titled album was released in 1993. Their second record, 'UP', was released in 1995, their third record, 'PLAY', was released in 1997 and the fourth and current album, ?TURN?, was just released on June 22nd, 1999. |
The music of Great Big Sea has been placed in many categories such as, pop, celtic, and folk. Although it is difficult to place this band into one musical genre, everyone agrees that these four talented guys produce high-energy music. Their second album, ?UP', was the first album to come out of Newfoundland and hit Platinum. Their third album, 'PLAY', was the second album from Newfoundland to hit Platinum. ?TURN? hit platinum in just a matter of four weeks. |
After making a name for themselves in Canada and in a few European countries, Great Big Sea is now introducing their music to the states. In the summer of 1998, Great Big Sea released their first album in the states entitled 'RANT & ROAR'. 'RANT & ROAR' is a compilation CD that consists of 13 songs and a hidden track taken from 'UP' and 'PLAY'. The band is patiently awaiting their success south of the 49. Great Big Sea have plans to release ?TURN? on their American label early in the year 2000. |
